We are all familiar with a Herd of cows, a Flock of chickens, a School of fish and a Gaggle of geese.

However, less widely known is a Pride of lions, a Murder of crows (as well as their cousins the rooks and ravens), an Exaltation of doves and, presumably because they look so wise, a Parliament of owls.

Now consider a group of Baboons. They are the loudest, most dangerous, most obnoxious, most viciously aggressive and least intelligent of all primates. And what is the proper collective noun for a group of baboons?

Believe it or not . . . a Congress!

You just can’t make this stuff up.

“Life’s tough . . . it’s even tougher if you’re stupid.” — John Wayne

Suppose you were an idiot. And suppose you were a member of Congress. But I repeat myself. — Mark Twain

In my many years I have come to a conclusion that one useless man is a shame, two is a law firm, and three or more is a congress. — John Adams

Charley Ressee’s final column for the Orlando Sentinel… Charley Ressee was a journalist for 49 years. The following article appeared in the 7 March 1995 edition of the Orlando Sentinel.

The article is completely neutral, neither anti-Republican or Democrat. Reese, a retired reporter for the Orlando Sentinel, has hit the nail directly on the head, defining clearly who it is that in the final analysis must assume responsibility for the judgments made that impact each one of us every day. It’s a short but good read. Worth the time. Worth remembering!

545 vs. 300,000,000 People – By Charlie Reese

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.

Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?

Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?

You and I don’t propose a federal budget. The President does.

You and I don’t have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations. The House of Representatives does.

You and I don’t write the tax code, Congress does.

You and I don’t set fiscal policy, Congress does.

You and I don’t control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.

One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one President, and nine Supreme Court justices equates to 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.

I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.

I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a President to do one cotton-picking thing. I don’t care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator’s responsibility to determine how he votes. Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.

What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The President can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land, gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives for originating and approving appropriations and taxes. Who is the speaker of the House? John Boehner. He is the leader of the majority party. He and fellow House members, not the President, can approve any budget they want. If the President vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted — by present facts — of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can’t think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.

If the tax code is unfair, it’s because they want it unfair.

If the budget is in the red, it’s because they want it in the red.

If the Army & Marines are in Iraq and Afghanistan it’s because they want them in Iraq and Afghanistan …

If they do not receive social security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it’s because they want it that way.

There are no insoluble government problems.

Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like “the economy,” “inflation,” or “politics” that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.

Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.

They and they alone, have the power.

They and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses.

Provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees…

We should vote all of them out of office and clean up their mess!

Rights Radio: The Congressional Reform Act of 2011. Citizens vs Congress. How to regain an equitable balance of political power w/ Dr. Joyce Starr. Show Date: April 14, 2011.

The 26th amendment (granting the right to vote for 18 year-olds) took only 3 months & 8 days to be ratified! Why? Simple! The people demanded it. That was in 1971…before personal computers, before e-mail, before cell phones, etc.

Of the 27 amendments to the Constitution, seven (7) took 1 year or less to become the law of the land…all because of public pressure.

How long might it take to turn the Congressional Reform Act of 2011 into change we can ALL believe in?

Listen to the Show and/or read below:

American senators devote 27 percent of their press releases to “partisan taunts” as compared to substance. “Partisan taunting seems to play a central role in the behavior of many senators,” declares a study by Justin Grimmer of Stanford and Gary King of Harvard.

Congressional Reform Act of 2011

1. Term Limits: 12 years maximum with only one of the possible options below..

A. Two Six-year Senate terms
B. Six Two-year House terms
C. One Six-year Senate term and three Two-Year House terms

2. No Tenure / No Pension: A Congressman collects a salary while in office and receives no pay when they are out of office.

3. Members of Congress (past, present & future) participate in Social Security.

All funds in the Congressional retirement fund move to the Social Security system immediately. All future funds flow into the Social Security system, and Congress participates with the American people.

4. Members of Congress can purchase their own retirement plan, just as all Americans do.

5. Congress will no longer be allowed to vote themselves a pay raise. Congressional pay will rise by the lower of the final Consumer Price Index or 3%.

6. Members of Congress lose their current health care system and participates in the same health care system as the American people.

7. Members of Congress must abide by all laws they impose on the American people.

8. All contracts with past and present Members of Congress are null and void effective 1/1/12.

Serving in Congress is an honor, not a career. The Founding Fathers envisioned citizen legislators, so ours should serve their term(s), then go home and back to work.

If each person contacts a minimum of twenty people then it will only take three days for most people in the U.S. to receive the message. Perhaps OUR time has come.

Privacy Rights in Danger. Tax Penalties on Taxpayers. The House version of the Obama Healthcare bill requires the release of tax records to the Health Czar and thousands of government employees. Dr. Joyce Starr interviews Congressman Will Robyou on this explosive privacy rights issue. Show Date: September 3, 2009.

Term Limits for Congress? Over 40 percent of Americans think we would be better served by randomly picking our representatives from the phone book.

The Chairman of the House Ways & Means Committee, Charlie Rangel, failed to declare more than $600,000 in assets – and as much as $1.3 million in outside income – in his Senate financial disclosure form. Rangel excused his oversights by saying, “…I delegated to my staff the completion of my annual House financial disclosure statements…”

Yet, the Congressman recently attached new provisions to the healthcare bill that would impose higher penalties on taxpayers for unintentional mistakes. His bill also requires the release of IRS records to the new “health czar” – as well as thousands of government employees at the national and local levels.

According to Washington Post & Associated Press reports, Rangel’s “Obamacare” bill would:

* Punish those who fail to alert the IRS to potentially questionable tax exemptions.

* Bar the IRS from waiving penalties against taxpayers who clearly erred in good faith.

* Double fines in certain circumstances.

* Increase fines for honest mistakes.

Congressional Complaint Department

But how can any Member of Congress justify attaching sweeping (and unrelated) tax penalties to the healthcare legislation – while completing undermining our privacy rights in the process?

Rangel & friends want to make the IRS the “Great Healthcare Enforcer.” (Privacy Rights? What Privacy Rights?)

Congressional approval ratings are now 37 percent – the lowest in over 20 years. Nearly 57 percent of Americans would like to replace the entire Congress. Sentiment is equally divided against both political parties.

Members of Congress understand how to game the system for their own benefit. They should not be allowed to serve for life!
