Topic: 2008 Florida legislation further protects condo owner association rights - Changes to Florida Condo Act FS 718 herald enhanced association safeguards for condo dwellers.
The State of Florida passed legislation in 2008 that further protects condo owner rights. Our featured guest spearheaded this legislation. He’s at the forefront of the homeowner rights consumer reform movement in Florida, including “drawing-board” legislation that will protect the rights of homeowners associations HOA members.

Representative Robaina was elected to serve District 117 of the Florida House of Representatives on November 5, 2002. RESPONSE TO COMMENT BELOW - RE ASSESSMENT PAYMENTS
Dear Fred,
The general concept, of course, is that your condo association is entitled to be paid.
However, it’s my personal belief that board members should take all reasonable and responsible steps possible to assist owners in distress before taking action against them. We hope to inspire and support a cadre of enlightened association board members through our homeowners association books and Rights Radio programs.
Failure to make a payment could be due to an honest error, an envelope lost in the mail, illness or some other unfortunate delay. Many issues come into play.
Associations are not typically required to take immediate or specific action when an owner is in arrears. It depends on the situation, relevant documents and state laws. The Florida Condo Act of 2008, for example, takes precedence over Florida condo documents.
We had an interesting show recently with a mortgage expert who explained the problems condo boards face when they foreclosue on a property. Click here for the the mortgage financing and foreclosure audio replay.
Re Cable TV: This is dependent on your documents (are you allowed to do so?) and technology. It may not be technically possible.
All the best,
Dr. Joyce Starr

A cancer patient has made a full recovery after being injected with billions of his own immune cells in the first case of its kind, doctors have disclosed.
The 52-year-old, who was suffering from advanced skin cancer, was free from tumors within eight weeks of undergoing the procedure.
After two years he is still free from the disease which had spread to his lymph nodes and one of his lungs.
Doctors took cells from the man’s own defence system that were found to attack the cancer cells best, cloned them and injected back into his body, in a process known as "immunotherapy".
Experts said that the case could mark a landmark in the treatment of cancer. Read More .
